We have had the opportunity to work on some incredible projects, but our transformation of Groosman Architecten’s office in Rotterdam was truly special. Our goal was to create an innovative and flexible space that reflected Groosman’s values and norms, but also embodied our dedication to sustainability.

We used only one material, wood, for the windows and interior walls, specifically reclaimed wood from demolished houses. This allowed us to repurpose materials and create a space that was not only beautiful but sustainable as well. We inherited some “gifts” from the building, like its industrial-style ceiling and gorgeous concrete floor, which we incorporated into the design to add to the unique aesthetic.
Circularity and sustainability were top priorities for this project, and we extended these values to everything we incorporated in the design. From the biobased paint to the Cradle to Cradle tiles, to the recycled carpet tiles and biobased acoustic spray ceiling, we ensured that every aspect of the design was environmentally conscious. Our commitment to sustainability is not just a marketing tactic, but a way of life at OAK.
In addition to sustainability, we prioritized flexibility, transparency and hybrid working, as Groosman’s dynamic work environment demanded it. We created spaces that could adapt to changing functional needs while still remaining beautiful and efficient.
Collaboration was key throughout the project, and the result is a breathtaking and unique space that fosters creativity and collaboration. But the collaboration didn’t end at the design phase; we also took care of the execution through our trusted partners at Zwartwoud, ensuring a turnkey delivery and a seamless experience for Groosman Architecten.
