Welcome to Oak, the place where creativity and sustainability come together! At Oak, we’re not afraid to think outside the box. So when we were challenged to transform a non-sustainable building into a sustainable hotspot for start-up entrepreneurs, we knew it was the perfect fit for us.
We quickly faced a challenge: how could we give a sustainable new purpose to a building that was difficult to revitalise? After thorough research, in collaboration with contractor Van Wijnen, we concluded that the insulation costs for the building were too high.
Leave it to us to come up with an inventive solution!
We quickly came up with the idea to repurpose old shipping containers into office units and place them inside the building. This way, we created a creative space that is both sustainable and functional. Each container is individually insulated and equipped with heating, cooling, and windows.
Of course, in our choice of materials and construction techniques, we focused strongly on circularity and sustainability. For example, the insulation is made of hemp and the interior walls are crafted from natural grasses. The result speaks for itself! Not only did we create a sustainable hotspot for entrepreneurs, but our own Oak team also uses several of the containers for our own studio.
